AbstractChlorophyll-a concentration serves as a fundamental indicator of phytoplankton biomass and marine ecosystem health. While traditional field-based spectrophotometric methods provide accurate measurements, satellite remote sensing offers the potential for large-scale, temporally dense monitoring of chlorophyll distributions. This study presents a comparative analysis of chlorophyll-a concentrations obtained through in-situ field measurements using ESS method 1991 and those derived from satellite remote sensing data (MODIS, VIIRS, SENTINEL-3, etc) around the sampling locations at Ennore, Cooum and Kovalam along East coast of Tamilnadu. Statistical methods were employed to quantify the agreement between datasets. The validation results reveal low, moderate and high agreement between field and satellite measurements.
